Celebrate Kindness

I've always loved the concept of Random Acts of Kindness. It's partially why I love mail so much and blog's like Secret Agent L. I love when people restore my faith in our universe by holding doors open for people and donating to charities. There's really so many things you can do as an act of kindness and what's great is when you read through a list of 'suggestions' and you realize that you already do so many of them on a regular basis!

Random Acts of Kindness week is from February 13-19 and in honor of that I put together some packs of hygienic products and non-perishable food into some beanie hats that I will pass out among homeless people who I pass in Baltimore.

contents: hats, band-aids, deodorant, bar of soap,
toothpaste, toothbrush, breakfast bars, cookies

loaded up!

About three or four years ago I did something very similar and I decided to bring back the idea in honor of this week. I haven't started to pass them out yet but I will do so in the upcoming week(s).

Also, to start the week off I brought in some tulips, cupcakes, and valentines for my office. They went over very well. :)

Did you do anything to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week?
What is your favorite story about a Random Acts of Kindness?

Friday Projects: Time Capsule

Recently I was inspired by Bianca's post about her creating a time capsule for her to open up in 5 years (which was inspired by a Keri Smith idea from her 100 Things list).

Particularly, I was inspired by the letter that she had her boyfriend write her which she doesn't plan to read until the 'do not open until' date. I decided to expand on that a bit and get all the important people in my life to write me something for me to open up and read in 6 (and a half-ish) years, on my 30th birthday.

Monday night I put the box together.
It included:

+ a print out of my current Facebook page, status, etc. and a question that asks if I even still use Facebook in 2018
+ a mix CD that I made for myself of my favorite songs and things that represent the kind of music that I am currently in love with
+ a letter from my boss, LaShandra
+ a letter from my dad
+ a current pay stub
+ a package (wrapped in SPAM wrapping paper) from Janice... I have no idea what's in it
+ one of my favorite pens
+ a vile of blue glitter
+ a mini yellow lollipop ornament
+ a letter to me, from me
+ an envelope that I put a yellow piece of paper in and let loose in my office.. it's definitely thicker than it was when I left it there and I have no idea what's in there, I also had Charlotte & Katie sign it
+ a packet of googly eyes
+ plastic star bouquet
+ a bunch of photos that represent where I'm at right now and the people & things I love
+ an assortment of the current stamps that are available in 2012
+ a letter from my Mattie

contents

no, Bug.. I need you now--you can't go in the time capsule

box before

box after

I put the box in the back of my closet and I'm pretty confident I'm not going to open it until it's time. 30 years old seems like so far from now, but I'm sure it will be here before I know it.

What would you put in a time capsule to represent your life right now?

Thursday Crafts: Whimsical Activities

On Monday I went to Lowe's and raided their paint chip section.

Free paint swatches are one of the greatest things about living in America. I'm sure the paint companies don't make them with the intent of me taking 100 at a time but it evens out, I'm sure.

I wasn't sure what I intended doing with them when I scooped them up but I did know that I needed them. Last night I decided to take all of the Valspar brand swatches and write a whimsical activity on each that I like to do when I'm feeling down or need a pick me up.
Then I hole punched the cards and slid a key ring through them. Here are some pictures of the finished product, the list of ideas, and some pictures of me doing the activities:

explore a dead end

recreate a photo you find inspiring

write a letter

make a snow, carpet, sand angel

twirl

play with sidewalk chalk

dance somewhere

have a picnic

take pictures in a photobooth

wear a tutu (and bold lipstick)

make a list that requires thinking & creativity

dress up (costumes, fancy clothes, whatever)

knit something simple and lovely

create something with glitter

go on a drive with the windows down

make paper snowflakes

What's the coolest thing you've ever seen done with paint swatches?
